STARFALL player guide: survival, scores and private battles

STARFALL is a free browser space shooter created by Vyshnav M Arun. Choose a solo survival run or invite friends into a private multiplayer room. You can play on a computer, phone or tablet without installing an app or creating a game account. The two modes use different firing and booster controls, so choose a mode below before your first flight.

Guide updated 23 October 2026. Multiplayer is in beta. Features and availability may change.

Your first solo flight

  1. Choose Single player above. On a computer, move with WASD or the arrow keys, or move the pointer over the battlefield. On a touch screen, drag on the battlefield to steer.
  2. Your weapons fire automatically in solo mode. Focus on finding a safe route between enemies and incoming shots rather than looking for a fire button.
  3. Press Space or tap Booster when its charge is full. The solo booster fires a spread and clears enemy projectiles; collecting energy alone does not activate it.
  4. Pause with P, Escape or the Pause control. Use the sound control if you want to change audio while playing.

A solo run begins with one life and twin cannons. A new level begins every 20 seconds of active flight, bringing tougher enemy waves and stronger weapons. The Vanguard commander begins appearing from level three. The full flight manual explains weapon progression, enemy warnings and scoring.

Make your next run last longer

Leave yourself an escape route. Moving into a corner limits the directions you can dodge. Look for open space before a formation reaches you, and make small corrections instead of chasing every enemy across the battlefield. If several shots approach at once, surviving the volley is more valuable than finishing one extra target.

Learn the pickup colours. A blue shield gives four seconds of protection, shown by a bubble and countdown. A purple lightning bolt fills booster energy to 100%. Approach a pickup when the path is clear; crossing a dangerous volley just to collect energy can end a run before you can use it.

Use the booster for pressure, not just points. It clears enemy projectiles as well as firing a spread. Saving a charge for a crowded formation gives you an option when ordinary movement is no longer enough. Energy recharges over time and from destroying enemies, so watch the meter instead of assuming another charge is ready.

Build combos without losing the ship. Regular enemies give 100 points, heavy ships 300 and commanders 500 before multipliers. Five consecutive kills increase your multiplier, up to 4×; keep scoring within three seconds to retain the streak. A risky chase can trade the whole run for a small score increase. Practise consistent survival first, then work on keeping the combo active.

Your browser remembers your best score. After a run, submitting a nickname and score to the public leaderboard is optional. Use a nickname that does not reveal personal information. Clearing browser data can reset the local record; it does not remove a score already submitted to the server.

Set up a private match with friends

Choose Multiplayer, enter a nickname and create a 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 room. Share its code privately with the people you want to play. A 1v1 needs two players, a 2v2 needs four, and a 3v3 needs six. Choose balanced teams and have everyone ready up before the host starts. There is no public matchmaking queue.

On a computer, use WASD or arrows to move, aim with the mouse and hold the mouse button to shoot. Hold Space to boost while fuel is available. On touch screens, drag to move; while touching, the ship aims and fires toward the closest opponent. Hold the Boost button to move faster. Unlike the solo booster, multiplayer boost is used for movement.

Matches last three minutes after the countdown. Destroy opponents to score for your team; the higher score wins and equal scores draw. You respawn after three seconds with brief protection. Asteroids offer cover and rapid-fire or spread pickups change your attack. Keep enough boost fuel to disengage when an opponent has a better angle. Read the multiplayer manual for room rules, rematches and connection details.

Troubleshooting and common questions

The game stays on “Preparing flight”. Allow the page to finish loading, then reload if it remains stuck. Try an updated browser with graphics acceleration available. If it continues, use the bug report form and include the device, browser, visible message and steps you tried.

A room code no longer works. Check it with the host. Rooms are temporary and may disappear when empty, when their lifetime expires or after a server restart. Create a fresh room and keep the game tab open on a stable connection.

Can I play without watching an ad or paying? The game is free to play and tips are optional. A rewarded revive may be offered when an ad is available, with at most one revive per solo run. If none is available, restart for another flight. Tips do not unlock game rewards.

How do I report a score or privacy problem? Use the private contact form and select the relevant topic. For a leaderboard request, include the nickname, score and approximate submission date. The form returns a reference number and does not provide an email reply. Avoid sending passwords or sensitive details.
